(Washington, DC) Today, House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Environment Ranking Member Stephanie Bice (R-OK) led a letter to National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy requesting information on the Biden Administration’s emissions reduction pledge to the Paris Agreement.

“We’re seeking answers on how the Biden Administration came up with such a high emissions reduction pledge to the Paris Agreement—nearly twice as much as the Obama Administration proposed,” Bice said. “We’ve been given very little insight into the science behind this drastic commitment. This pledge is going to affect businesses, jobs, and families in Oklahoma and across the country. They deserve to know this decision was not made arbitrarily.”

Bice was joined by all of the Republican Members of the Environment Subcommittee requesting information on the Biden Administration’s pledge to reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.

“If the Administration intends for this standard to drive federal policymaking across numerous sectors and support its substantial funding requests, transparency surrounding its establishment is essential,” the Members wrote. “Further, such standards must be based on accurate calculations and a rigorous review process rather than in response to political pressure.”

The Subcommittee requested a briefing on the science and process behind the nationally-determined contribution to the Paris Agreement.

Signers of the letter include Bice, Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-IA), and Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL).
