WASHINGTON- U.S. House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) released the following statement today on former Governor Perry’s confirmation as Secretary of Energy.

Chairman Smith: “Secretary Perry has long been a champion of energy development, and he brings a wealth of knowledge with him as he takes the reins as our Secretary of Energy.  As governor, Secretary Perry created an environment for Texas to thrive as an ‘all of the above’ energy state that is the largest producer of oil, gas, and wind energy.  The Science Committee that I chair has jurisdiction over billions of dollars of DOE civilian research and development. The DOE Office of Science is the largest federal sponsor of basic research in the physical sciences, and DOE’s national labs provide scientific facilities to universities, industry, and entrepreneurs from around the word.  We will work with Secretary Perry to prioritize basic research that will lead to innovative technologies and develop affordable energy for Americans.”
