Washington D.C. – In response to an announcement today by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposing a new rule to heavily regulate America’s electricity producers, Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Ralph Hall (R-TX), Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Paul Broun (R-GA), and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Andy Harris (R-MD) released the following joint statement:
We are deeply troubled by the Administration’s latest plan to advance its job-killing energy policies through regulatory means. The EPA’s proposed greenhouse gas regulations are particularly objectionable in light of the shaky scientific foundation used to justify them, as evidenced by EPA’s own Inspector General report on the underlying CO2 endangerment finding.
“President Obama’s regulatory agenda is driving up energy costs and destroying thousands of jobs. This rule, which the EPA admits will result in only ‘negligible CO2 emission changes,’ will only further exacerbate these negative impacts on jobs and the economy. Once again, the President’s rhetoric is disconnected from the actions of his Administration and stands in stark contrast to Republicans’ all-of-the-above energy strategy. Over the past 15 months, the Science, Space, and Technology Committee has highlighted numerous examples of shaky scientific justification used to rationalize EPA’s regulatory onslaught, and we expect to continue scrutiny of this problematic, heavy-handed proposal.”
