Chairwoman Johnson Applauds Interagency Task Force on Release of Scientific Integrity Report
(Dallas, TX) – Yesterday, the Scientific Integrity Fast-Track Action Committee (SI-FTAC) released a report entitled “Protecting the Integrity of Government Science.” SI-FTAC is an interagency task force of the National Science and Technology Council that was created in response to President Biden’s Presidential Memorandum on Restoring Trust in Government Through Scientific Integrity and Evidence-Based Policymaking, which was issued on January 27, 2021. SI-FTAC’s report is the first comprehensive assessment of Federal scientific integrity policies and practices ever undertaken by the Federal Government. The report surveyed scientific integrity across Federal agencies and identified practices and approaches that can better safeguard the conduct, communication, and use of science throughout the Federal Government.
“I applaud the SI-FTAC and the Biden Administration for affirming the critical importance of strengthening scientific integrity throughout Federal research and policymaking processes,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “This report demonstrates that sound scientific integrity procedures, strong protections for Federal scientists, and consistent support for scientific integrity from agency leaders represent the cornerstones of a lasting culture of Federal scientific integrity. The report articulates many valuable best practices that should be widely adopted and vigorously implemented by Federal agencies. I will continue to support the Administration’s efforts to bolster scientific integrity, including the planned development of a framework to assess scientific integrity policies throughout the Federal Government.”
